Don, a 68 year old retired oral and maxillofacial surgeon, is a native of Carbon County, Utah. He attended local schools, the College of Eastern Utah (known as Carbon College at that time), and the University of Utah before leaving the state for his advanced education and career. He was first licensed as N3AUE in 1979, and soon developed a keen interest in DXing. His previous stations and calls include: N3AUE and KI3L in Maryland from 1979 until 1984; KI3L/5 in Gallup, New Mexico from 1984 to mid 1989; and KI3L/5 and N5LZ in the Houston, Texas area from 1989 until 2004. He retired and returned to Utah in August 2004, and now lives in Mendon on the west side of Cache Valley. His DX awards include Mixed DXCC Honor Roll Number One, SSB DXCC Honor Roll, and CW DXCC Honor Roll. He has been an ARRL member since 1979. In addition, he has been affiliated with the Potomac Valley Radio Club, the National Capital DX Association and the Texas DX Society, where he served as president in 1992-93. He is currently a member of the Utah DX Association, and serves as an ARRL DXCC card checker. Don spends a considerable amount of time on the air. When he is not chasing DX, he is active in most major HF contests, and can also be found ragchewing on either SSB or CW. He is a regular participant in the Beehive Utah Net on 40 meters.
